Step up to Full-frame Imaging
The Canon EOS R8 interchangeable-lens mirrorless digital camera offers robust photo and video capabilities for photographers and multimedia content creators alike. Packing advanced technology in a lightweight, ergonomic, travel-friendly body, the EOS R8 breaks new ground, offering a cost-effective entrée into the world of high-performance full-frame imaging. Utilizing the state-of-the-art full-frame 24.2MP CMOS sensor ported from Canon’s upmarket EOS R6 Mark II teamed up with the company’s acclaimed DIGIC X processor, the EOS R8 delivers highly detailed still photos, gorgeous 4K/60p 10-bit video, and quick, confident auto-focusing. Sweetwater maintains a staff of professional photographers (many of whom are fiercely loyal Canon shooters), and these pros will only use full-frame cameras for their assignments. In the past, these cameras have come with a hefty price tag, but thanks to Canon’s industry-leading technology, the playing field has been leveled. Step up to full-frame performance with the Canon EOS R8!
The professional advantages of a full-frame sensor
Vloggers and podcasters require image quality that looks good on the Web. If that’s your jam, why not just get an inexpensive camera with a smaller sensor? We’re glad you asked. While the quality of photos and video produced by the EOS R8 handily exceeds what is needed for Web content, the camera provides professional features like a full-frame sensor and an interchangeable lens mount that gives you access to the entire range of acclaimed Canon glass. But let’s talk crop factor. With a full-frame (36mm × 24mm) sensor, there is no crop factor. Canon’s APS-C sensors, on the other hand, have a crop factor of 1.6, meaning that if you mount a 50mm lens, you’ll get an 80mm field of view. A 24–105mm zoom lens would yield an effective focal length of 38.4–168mm. Of course, you get more reach on the telephoto side, but at the expense of wide-angle coverage. However, cropping negatively affects image quality as well. While a crop-sensor camera doesn’t capture the full optical field of a lens, essentially taking a crop from the center and magnifying it by the crop factor, a full-frame camera maximizes image quality by taking full advantage of a lens’ optics and design without the need for magnification (and the resulting image degradation).
